What is the fertile period?
The fertile period is the time when pregnancy is possible. Sperm survive for up to 5 days in a woman's body, while eggs survive for about 12 to 24 hours after ovulation. Therefore, the period from 5 days before ovulation to the day of ovulation is the time with the highest probability of pregnancy.
How to calculate ovulation day
Ovulation Day = Next Period Expected Date − 14 days
Fertile period = 5 days before ovulation to 1 day after ovulation
Fertile period = 5 days before ovulation to 1 day after ovulation
⚠️ This calculator assumes a regular menstrual cycle. If your menstrual cycle is irregular, the accuracy of the results may be lower. It is recommended to use an ovulation test (LH surge measurement) in conjunction to accurately determine the timing of ovulation.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the fertile period?
The fertile period is the time when pregnancy is possible, lasting approximately 6 days around the day of ovulation. Since sperm can survive for up to 5 days, the period from 5 days before ovulation to the day of ovulation is when the chances of pregnancy are highest.
Is the ovulation date accurate?
This calculator is a statistical estimate based on the assumption of a regular cycle. Ovulation dates may vary due to stress, illness, weight changes, etc. It is more accurate to confirm the LH hormone surge using an ovulation test.
What should I do if I want to get pregnant?
Having regular sexual intercourse during your fertile years increases your chances of pregnancy. Taking folic acid, quitting smoking and drinking, and maintaining a healthy weight help prepare for pregnancy. If you have been unable to conceive for more than a year, consulting an obstetrician is recommended.
